Mimi is an Esthetician of over 16 years. Mimi started out sweeping and shampooing hair in a small salon outside Philadelphia, Pa. While there she was realized she had a natural knack for makeup application. This salon helped Mimi develop her skills and entered her as their makeup artist in several hair shows and competitions throughout Philadelphia. After her success in these shows Mimi decided to go to Esthetics school to learn about skincare and makeup. She then went on to work for MAC cosmetics and several top salons/spas in Philadelphia and Atlanta. Throughout her years as an Esthetician Mimi was always an educator, helping her fellow estheticians with tricks and techniques she used in her craft. Where ever Mimi worked she always developed a large following of clients especially in the areas of Brow and Brazilian waxing. Mimi has been called the “brow whisperer” by her clients. Mimi has been educating estheticians privately and in salons/spas for over 12 years. For the last 9 years Mimi has worked for the Bliss Spa inside the W hotel, Downtown Atlanta where she is the Lead Esthetician. This position allowed Mimi to train all new hires, on going education, and travel to train at other Bliss spas. This experience was great for Mimi but she loved so many Esthetic services that were not offered at the spa and realized her real passion was to teach these practices. There was no school or training center that offered all of these new and cool techniques. She also saw the difficulty acquiring the tools and supplies here in Atlanta needed for such services. So Mimi figured if there wasn’t a lane for her, she would make one. She had always been a lover of hair extensions and also saw a lack of real Indian Virgin Hair in Atlanta. So she decided to create a beauty boutique that specializes in fabulous extensions of all kinds. She would stock only the best hairs in the world. So she set out on an adventure to acquire these specialty hairs. Along the way Mimi has learned a lot about the hairs we have all been purchasing for years and is ready to bring the truth to the extension industry.
This knowledge and experience birthed Selfish by Mimi Kennedy. Selfish is not your average beauty supply store so Mimi knew it needed to look a little different. She also wanted the public to be able to try out products, makeup, and lashes while they are in the store. So she created a gorgeous “try me” bar that allows you to do just that. This bar has top of the line mirrors that allow you to adjust the lighting yourself. Mimi has thought of everything, it even has purse hooks. If you came to see the best hair in the world. She has created something special for you too. Mimi built a beautiful glass room for you to select your pieces of hair. All you have to do is tell her what type of curl pattern/length you are interested in and she will lead you to the glass room where the hair of your dreams will arrive for your choosing.
Education was the foundation of Selfish so the training center portion of the boutique was super important as well. Open up our contemporary barn doors and see a space that can accommodate up to 12 students (depending on class) equip with a large flat screen and apple tv for a state of the art training experience. We also have a lounge room with a refrigerator/freezer and coffee maker just for the comfort and convenience of the students. Some of our classes are 2 or 3 days so Mimi wanted everyone to be in a peaceful and cozy space conducive to learning.
